How Do I Join the Coast Guard?

You must first locate a recruitment office if you wish to join the United States Coast Guard. After you’ve found a coast guard recruiter, you’ll have to pass a series of mental and physical tests with a specific score. You will be required to participate in basic training and successfully complete all aspects of training by passing a final physical agility and swimming test once you have been cleared to enlist. You will be a member of the coast guard’s forces and assigned to a duty station after successfully completing all coast guard training, testing, and physical fitness conditioning.

On a daily basis, the US Coast Guard is involved in natural disasters, drug trafficking enforcement, and anti-terrorist patrols. If you want to join the guard as a full-time or reserve member, you’ll need to find a recruiter and express your interest in the service. Physically, you’ll be tested to ensure that you’ll be able to withstand the basic training you’ll receive, and mentally, you’ll be assessed to determine your mental capability as well as your personal beliefs and moral status. You will be sent to coast guard basic training in New Jersey, USA, if you are deemed worthy of joining the service.

Basic military behavior, rank recognition, marching and close order drill technique, and physical conditioning will all be taught once you arrive at basic training. Completing tasks that you may not have been able to complete prior to enlistment will help you gain confidence. You’ll get training in the classroom, on land, and in the water to learn the skills you’ll need to pass basic training and join the coast guard. You don’t have to be a great swimmer to join the coast guard, but you will need to pass some swimming tests in order to complete basic training.

To graduate from basic training, you must also pass a physical test, such as performing 29 pushups (men) and 15 pushups (women) in 60 seconds, as well as 38 situps (men) and 32 situps (women) in 60 seconds. Running is also tested, and passing the training portion of your enlistment has a minimum requirement. To pass basic training, both men and women must complete a swim circuit, tread water for five minutes, jump from a 16-foot (5-meter) board, and swim 328 feet (100 meters).
