What are the Different Types of Indoor Workouts?

Working out indoors can be a great idea for a number of reasons. If the weather is poor, or one lives in an unsafe neighborhood, it may be unsafe to workout outside. Perhaps one simply may prefer indoor workouts. There are many different types of indoor workouts, including aerobic activities, group fitness classes, exercises on gym equipment, weight lifting, or stretching activities, just to name a few. Keep in mind that even while working out indoors, it is important to wear supportive sneakers, warm up before beginning, and stay hydrated.

One of the best ways to do indoor workouts is by joining a local gym. There, one is able to join group classes or create one’s own indoor workout plan. Gyms offer many different pieces of fitness equipment, including aerobic equipment such as treadmills, elliptical fitness cross trainers, and stationary bicycles, among others. For different indoor workouts, one might choose to use a different type of aerobic fitness equipment every day.

Aside from the aerobic equipment used for indoor workouts at gyms, there are other types of strength training equipment available as well, in addition to free weights. All of these machines typically offer the user the option to change the weight and level of difficulty, allowing one to create a customized workout plan and to gradually increase the difficulty over time. Weight machines may work different muscles throughout the entire body for a comprehensive indoor workout.

In addition to the equipment found at gyms and fitness centers, many gyms offer elevated tracks for jogging, and indoor basketball, tennis, or racquetball courts for playing those games. Many gyms also offer indoor pools, which can be a great way to workout indoors. Finally, many gyms or studios offer group fitness classes in aerobics, yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, or aerobic dance, among others, all of which are excellent indoor workouts.

Some people cannot afford to join a gym or would simply rather not. In that case, there are many indoor workouts that can be done in one’s own home, with or without purchasing fitness equipment. Using a fitness DVD can be a great way to get some exercise, and there are DVDs available for any exercise preference. In addition, one might choose to purchase some inexpensive and portable equipment to use while exercising, such as a large fitness ball, jump rope, resistance band, or hand weights. Even running up and down the stairs in one’s house can be a great workout.
