A driving instructor test is usually divided into three sections. To become a licensed driving instructor, you must pass the driving theory test, the driving test, and the instructional ability test, and you must be prepared for each part. Depending on your location, additional requirements may be required.
A background check will be required before you can take part one of the driving instructor test. This process can take anywhere from six to eight weeks, so use this time to brush up on your driving theory and prepare for the first part of your exam. For part one of the driving instructor test, you typically have an unlimited number of attempts, with each attempt typically spaced two weeks apart. Between parts one and two, and parts two and three, there is usually a six to eight-week wait. As a result, intensive study during this period is usually unnecessary. To ensure that facts are not forgotten during the wait period, you should probably study a little each week leading up to each part of the test.
The driving portion of the driving instructor test is the second part of the exam. You’ll need to drive a car with a licensed instructor in the passenger seat to assess your abilities. To pass this section of the test, you must strictly adhere to all traffic laws. For this section of the test, a limited number of attempts may be given. If you fail more than the allowed number of times, you must restart the process, which can take up to two years depending on when you passed section one.
The test’s instructional ability section follows. An instructor will take you out in a car once more, but this time you will demonstrate your ability to teach others. You will teach the instructor how to drive while he is pretending to be a student. There is a limit to how many times you can take this section of the driver instructor test. You may be required to wait two years from the date you passed section one if you fail on your third attempt.
You must pass a background check as well as a general health check in order to take the driver instructor test. You must have good eyesight, which means you should be able to read the license plate numbers on a car several feet away. Other requirements include holding a valid driver’s license for a certain period of time without it being revoked.
