What Are the Different Types of Bedroom Locks?

There are a number of different types of bedroom locks, though they are mainly designed as either permanent fixtures on the door or as portable locks that can be used on any door. Most locks for bedroom doors are simple locks built into the handle of the door itself, often locked by the push of a button. Other permanent locks can include those designed for use with pocket doors and more heavy duty locks such as deadbolts or chain locks. There are also portable bedroom locks that can be quickly and easily “installed” on a door to provided added security.

Bedroom locks are any type of lock that can be used to better secure a bedroom door from unwanted intrusion. Many of these locks are designed as permanent fixtures on the door itself, often as part of the handle for the door. These simple locks are usually designed to keep the doorknob from turning once engaged, rather than inserting a locking bolt or other piece of hardware into the wall once locked. Such bedroom locks do not usually use a key, but instead have a small hole in the doorknob that can be used to push the lock button outward and unlock the door if necessary.

There are also other types of bedroom locks that can be included for doors with different types of handles. Pocket doors are designed to slide in and out of a wall while in use, and typically have small locks that can be engaged when the door is closed. These locks usually function as metal hooks that hold the door closed while in use. Other types of locks can also function as bedroom locks, such as deadbolts and chain locks that are often used on entrance doors.

Some portable locking devices can also be used as bedroom locks, and these are often used by travelers who wish to have extra security or privacy assurance. Such locks typically function by inserting a small metal frame between the edge of a door and the frame where the door connects when closed. This small frame typically has openings for a thick metal pin on the inside of the door once it is closed, and the pin is inserted into the frame to “lock” the door. These bedroom locks function by having the pin act as a stopper that prevents the door from being opened, and usually require the door being kicked in to circumvent them.
