What Does a Promotions Assistant Do?

The promotions assistant is frequently an intern or a group of interns working for experience, class credit, or an hourly wage under the promotions director. They are responsible for assisting the promotions manager or director with events and preparations. The promotions assistant’s job is to assist in the delivery of a smooth event that runs on time and meets all of the event’s requirements. Promotions assistants are people-oriented and have excellent oral communication skills.

Part-time promotions assistants often work sporadic hours around specific events. Younger candidates in high school or college who are looking for experience fill many promotions assistant positions. This position requires a worker to be 18 years old or older, with a high school diploma or a GED. Because promotions assistants drive company vehicles to events, they must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. They are also in charge of maintaining and equipping station vehicles.

A promotions assistant should have a friendly demeanor and be the company’s public face. He or she serves as a link between the company’s or station’s promotions department and the general public. Promotions assistants work on-site at events, while the rest of the team works in the office. For a remote broadcast or event, two or more promotional assistants are usually present.

A promotions assistant should be able to set up and maintain equipment whether they are working on live or remote broadcasts. Promotions assistants must be able to lift heavy objects and work nights and weekends. Many of a company’s major promotional events will take place on Saturdays and Sundays.

Every day, promotions assistants will check e-mail to ensure that giveaway promotions are up to date. Hours that are flexible are a must. Promotions assistants usually work another job during the day. Occasionally, hours are exchanged for school credit or a small hourly wage.

A promotions assistant at a radio station, for example, is in charge of preparing promotional materials such as flyers and CDs, as well as driving the company car to events and setting up the radio promotions booth. They also interact with attendees and promote the radio station, and when the event is over, they dismantle equipment. It is their primary responsibility to interact with customers, provide free giveaways or raffles, and promote their radio station.
