What is a Mobile Hair Stylist?

A mobile hair stylist is a hairdresser who travels to various locations, including clients’ homes, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or even college or corporate campuses, to style hair on-site. Rather than a client needing to visit a salon to get his or her hair done, the mobile hair stylist will come right to them. Frequently, mobile hair stylists are stylists who grew tired of working at a salon, and decided to open up their own business, either independently or with partners.

A mobile hair stylist will typically be able to perform most, if not all, of the services offered at a traditional brick-and-mortar salon. These may include haircuts, colorings, hair treatments such as perms or straightening, and styles for special events such as weddings or dances. In addition, the stylist may be able to perform other treatments for the face and body. These might be facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, waxing, and even tanning.

Clients of the mobile hair stylist will not need to provide anything; the stylist will bring all of their own tools. Mobile hair stylists frequently travel with their own chair and sink as well. Some bring their tools right into the client’s home, while others have their mobile salon set up in a large vehicle such as a bus or recreational vehicle.

There are many occasions when using a mobile hair stylist’s services would be convenient. A popular one is for a bridal party getting ready at home, or at a hotel before the wedding, or for an engagement party that wants to have a relaxing day of spa treatments. Busy parents or people who have trouble making appointments during regular salon hours might find it beneficial to be able to have a stylist come right to their home, avoiding the need for child care, or to take off work. Nursing homes and assisted living facilities are also popular and convenient destinations for mobile hair stylists.

Because mobile hair stylists are often free to choose their own hours, select their own clients, and set their own prices, they are often able to take more time with clients. One of the disadvantages to having a mobile hairdresser, however, is that many people enjoy visiting the salon and getting a break from their everyday lives. In addition, it is important to make sure that any stylist has both a beautician license and a business license to operate their business.
