What is a Vocation Vacation?

The proclivity for people to daydream about their ideal job is fairly strong. Many people consider what they really want to do, and some tentatively begin to consider how to go about changing jobs. Taking a vocation vacation is one way to learn more about your options. This is when people take a vacation from their vacation to work and learn about a dream job. They pay for this pleasure, but they may discover whether reality matches the dream, and they may discover resources to make a genuine career change.

Brian Kurth is often credited with inventing this concept and founding the Vocation Vacations® company in the early 2000s. His company is now offering a growing number of specialized vacations where people can learn more about the jobs they want to do. Each vocation vacation is led experts in the field of work that a person wishes to pursue, and the cost can range from a few thousand US Dollars (USD) to less than a thousand USD, depending on the scope and location of the vocation. There may be other companies that offer these dream job getaways, but Kurth’s is the first and most well-known.

Through Kurth’s and other companies, there are numerous potential vocation vacation options to consider. People can learn how to write scripts or become veterinarians for a few weeks. Many people pursue acting careers, while others work in a bed and breakfast, make wine, captain a boat, farm oysters, run alpaca ranches, or compose symphonies.

Obviously, some vocation vacation packages will appeal to people who already have certain skills. If you want to be a composer, you should be able to read music, and if you want to be a singer, you should be able to carry a tune. Many people daydream about another career because they already have skills in that field that they have ignored or never explored because they chose to do something else.

People don’t always get jobs in their dream fields after taking a career break. When the dream job is put to the test, some people discover they don’t care for it. Others make the transition to new jobs, or they can continue to look for new opportunities taking multiple vacations to find the best new job. People can also work as mentors for these vacation companies, training others to do a variety of jobs while on vacation.
