Holle is a company that offers pure organic food for babies. Holle was founded as Holle Food AG in Arlsheim in 1933. Soon afterward, Holle produced its first Holle wholemeal bread and Holle organic food, which makes the company one of the first manufacturers for organic baby food in Europe. The original baby food range included several cereal-based foods for bottle feeds as well as porridges to be mixed with either fresh milk or with fruit.
For over 80 years, Holle started using Demeter products in manufacturing their baby food. Holle, as a baby food manufacturer, has been consciously concentrating their attention for the babies’ welfare, as well as for the environment. As a result, social responsibility and sustainable management have always been among Holle’s core values. Holle’s operating methods are based on their passion for ensuring that future generations will be able to live in a healthy environment. Holle has consistently strived hard to make it even more sustainable, implementing a wide range of measures and projects.
Holle also engages in global climate protection under the motto Making Soil Good. Since the beginning of 2013, Holle has been compensating for CO2e emissions generated during the production of their baby milk formula. From November 2014, all Holle milk cereals and Holle baby porridges have also been CO2e neutralized products. Holle’s goat milk formula has also been climate-neutral since 2016. Additional products, such as junior mueslis, are also expected to be accredited. Holle obtains their emission certificates through the biodynamic compost projects of Soil & More in South Africa and Egypt.
Holle Baby Formula is produced from 99% organically grown ingredients. The milk used in every formula comes from cows raised on biodynamic (Demeter) farms in caring and suitable environments. All their farms are strictly adhering to EU organic ordinances and, moreover, to the stringent international Demeter ordinances. The reason for having a superior quality of the milk used for their premium baby food is the fact that their cows are grazing on lush biodynamic fields and pastures. Demeter farmers avoid the painful dehorning of cows. Other notable ingredients include organic vegetable oils which provide essential fatty acids for the baby. The remaining 1% of the ingredient consists of vitamins and minerals which are essential for the baby’s growth and are required by EU regulations.
Right from the start, Holle has focused on naturalness since they want their products to deserve being called sustainable. Holle baby food is being produced only with natural ingredients grown to biodynamic or organic standards. No chemical processing materials and preservatives are used, no added salt or granulated sugar, flavoring and coloring agents. Holle is the only manufacturer with an almost comprehensive baby food range in Demeter quality in Europe and has grown to one of the dominant manufacturers of organic baby food.
