It is a common misconception that pouring paint is a simple task. Heavy paint cans, in particular, are difficult to handle, and a misstep can result in paint spillage. Before cutting a hole in the tin, cover it with a sheet of protective covering, preferably plastic. Install a spout in this hole, lift the can, and carefully pour the paint into the tray. Pouring paint from a small can is similar to pouring paint from a large can, except the lid is easier to pop open. To avoid clogging, the spout should be cleaned in both cases.
Pouring paint is one of those activities that isn’t as simple as it appears. The general consensus is that pouring paint from a tin into a tray is a simple task that can be completed without difficulty. This ignores the fact that if paint is poured carelessly into a tray, it splashes and makes a mess. While the majority of problems occur when paint is poured from a large can, even small cans can cause issues.
A protective covering, such as a sheet of plastic, should be laid down before pouring paint from a large can. If a large can of paint spills on the floor, it should be large enough to contain it. It can then be topped with a paper towel roll, a paint spout, and a paint tray.
The plastic cap on a large can of paint should be removed before pouring. The can should be placed in such a way that the uncapped hole faces the tray. A paint spout should be inserted and twisted into the uncapped hole until it is properly seated.
Large paint cans can weigh up to 44-55 pounds (20-25 kilograms), so use your legs and don’t round your back when lifting them. Tilt the can so that the spout begins slowly pouring paint into the tray. After the tray has been filled with the required amount of paint, wipe any paint that has dripped from the bucket spout with paper towels. Immediately rinsing the spout with warm water ensures that the paint does not dry inside the spout and clog it.
A screwdriver can be used to lift the lid of a smaller can when pouring paint. As before, insert the spout and make sure it faces the tray. Lifting a small can is easier, but the principle remains the same. Pouring should be done at a slow and steady pace. Wipe away any remaining paint and thoroughly rinse the spout once more.
