A retail sales associate works on the front lines of the business, interacting with a wide range of companies and products. This position is in charge of selling or renting the company’s products and services. During the workday, people in this position typically perform a variety of tasks, including greeting customers, assisting customers with product or service selection, maintaining merchandise, employing sales techniques, and occasionally handling financial transactions.

A retail sales associate’s main responsibility is to provide excellent customer service. In most stores, a retail salesperson is in charge of the entire customer experience. This starts with a warm greeting and an assessment of the customer’s requirements. If a potential client is looking for a specific product or service, the sales associate can assist in locating the item and can usually provide guidance and advice on product selection. The main goal is to inform the customer that the retail clerk is available to assist him.

Retail sales associates may also assist in the stocking and refilling of product displays. They are in charge of keeping sales displays well-stocked and clean, as well as adding new products to the mix. The sales associate folds and refolds items in display areas in certain arenas, such as clothing stores.
