What Scholarships are Available for Rhodes Scholars?

The Rhodes Scholarship is a prestigious full-ride scholarship to Oxford University in the United Kingdom. After Cecil Rhodes’ death in 1902, the scholarship was established with a legacy he left for this purpose. The Rhodes Trust is in charge of it.

The full ride scholarship’s main goal is to provide some of the best students from around the world with opportunities to study at Oxford. Cecil Rhodes hoped that bringing together the brightest minds would aid in the promotion of international understanding. On this basis, the research continues.

The scholarship was created with students from the British colonies, the United States, and Germany in mind, but it has since been expanded. The Rhodes Trust website or Rhodes Scholarship Allocations have a list of countries that are covered. Every year, approximately 90 candidates are offered scholarships.

Applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 24 on October 1st of the year in which they apply. They must be citizens of the country from which they are applying, have completed or are about to complete an undergraduate degree with honors, and have a solid track record overall. They will be required to provide six references.

The Rhodes Scholars are chosen in the months of November and December. They are expected to start at Oxford in October of the following year. The scholars are chosen based on their academic performance, athletic ability, all-around abilities, references, and a personal interview.

Rhodes scholars typically receive full-ride scholarships for a two-year period. However, one- or three-year college scholarships are also considered. When a Rhodes scholar is in his or her second year, he or she can apply for a third year. The scholarship may be extended to a fourth year if there are some financial constraints.

Rhodes scholars can pursue any full-time degree program they want, as long as it is offered at Oxford and they meet the university’s admission requirements. The University’s website has information about available courses. For more information, interested students should contact the department of their choice at Oxford.

Only after a Rhodes scholar has been accepted to an Oxford college will the Rhodes Trust confirm college scholarships. Rhodes scholars receive a monthly maintenance allowance as part of their full-ride scholarship.

The rent and living expenses are covered by the monthly allowance. In addition, Rhodes scholars receive a stipend to cover their travel expenses to and from Oxford. The Rhodes Trust pays the tuition fees directly to the college for the chosen study course.
