A resort is a location created for the purpose of recreation or relaxation. People frequently visit such locations on vacation, necessitating the hiring of a large staff to accommodate them. A guide will need specific knowledge and experience in that activity, as well as first-aid certification and experience to handle any emergencies that may arise. Ski resorts frequently hire ski patrollers who are proficient skiers so that they can reach guests on any trail at the resort in the event of an emergency.
Maintaining the hotel is often a time-consuming process that necessitates a large number of people. Housekeeping, janitorial, and guest services are examples of resort jobs; the latter requires employees to handle reservations, resolve customer complaints, organize activities, and more. Activity planners may be available to keep guests entertained or to organize specific events on the resort grounds. Maintenance crews may be in charge of maintaining a pleasant environment outside the hotel, including mowing grass, pruning hedges, planting flowers and trees, and generally maintaining the landscape.
Many of the positions already mentioned, as well as golf-specific positions, are available at golf resorts. A golf pro, for example, might teach lessons, organize leagues and events, and oversee overall operations on the course. The clubhouse manager may be in charge of keeping a kitchen staff and waitstaff in place, booking events and making sure they go off without a hitch, and accommodating any other guest needs.
In some of the larger resorts, tour guides are common. Employees in these resort jobs must have a thorough understanding of the area and be able to answer guests’ questions about where to go, what to do, and the history of the location. A tour guide’s specific job functions vary resort, but in general, most guides will show guests around the area and point out interesting or important facts about the area.
