The EPIC certification is a sought-after credential among evidence photographers. It is especially important for those who are responsible for photographing crime scenes. To obtain certification, an individual must pay a fee and pass an exam. The Evidence Photographers International Council, which provides certification, also recommends that certification candidates attend the education program it offers as part of their exam preparation. Candidates may find ways to prepare on their own if this is not required.

A person may pursue EPIC certification in order to establish himself as an expert and gain more assignments and credibility. The registration for the exam and education program is usually the first step for someone who wants to earn EPIC certification. Registration is usually required at least 21 days prior to the start of an EPIC education program. If a person does not intend to enroll in the education program, he must register for the written exam at least five days before the exam date.
Those who choose to participate in the education program will likely require a laptop to review the learning materials provided on CD the organization. The test material for this education program is divided into three modules. Each module is taught over the course of a day and a half, followed testing in the afternoon.
